THE DAIRY FARM ICE

COLD STORAGE CALTH

MOTOR VANS.

HIS volume is intended to be a review of the progress of The Dairy Farm, Ice and Cold Storage Co., Ltd., Hong Kong, from its inception in 1886 to the present time. Mainly compiled from the minute books of the Company, the facts are amplified with interesting information supplied by the Management. The Company occupies a large place in the daily life of the community and in its shipping activities, and the recent absorption of the Hong Kong Ice Company as well as the addition of Ham and Bacon Curing and Meat Canning Plants to the Company's business, marking an important epoch in the Colony's food supply problem, provide this opportunity to place on permanent record the outstanding features of the Company's history. A con- sideration of the past may help to fill up such gaps as there are in local knowledge, and at the same time convey to the ever-growing clientele of the Company, who are not resident in the Colony, some idea of the vast and varied scope of the Company's undertakings. With these objects this volume is presented to the reader in the hope that, while it may prove to be of more than passing interest to him, it will also be a small tribute from the Company to the wisdom, foresight, energy and pluck of the pioneers of an enterprise which has attained dimensions and success far surpassing their most sanguine anticipations.
